More than "Just a Celebration of Life Video"

Over a year ago, in the middle of 2023, My Legacy Captured started this endeavor--to capture people's essence through a documentary video. These videos serve as an ancestry DNA for your family tree. For generations you'll have a video of your family lineage. Each video will serve as a vital piece of each persons legacy.

This October, a client reached out wanting a video for her husband's celebration of life party. I was so excited someone trusted us with our service. Karla sent us her flash drive with photos as well as physical copies of old photos to scan.

Several of the photos themselves were faded, aged and damaged. In addition to scanning physical photos, we color restore the photos to their highest potential and as well as cleaning up blemishes, dust and scratches.

My impression is that our client wanted a slideshow or photo montage video for their memorial. Because that was my first thought--when I tasked myself to create a video for my Grandpa Frank--for his celebration of life ceremony. During that process I realized I have hours and hours of interviews of my Grandpa Frank. Not to mention, he was featured in books, newspaper articles, movies, etc. So there was an impressive amount of media I had stored of Frank. As a filmmaker, I decided to make a documentary, rather than a slideshow.

At Frank's celebration of life, the results were impressive. More people than I can remember came up to me, at a standing room only celebration of over 100 people. Many asking how did I make such a video of Frank? I told them, I was filming a documentary that he was a part of and I have tons of interviews and B-ROLL of Frank on external hard drives. Mind you, the video is 19 minutes and no one moved their eyes from the screen for 19 minutes. A standing room only crowd watched this for 19 MINUTES. I was shook. It really displayed to me the power of videos like these. What it can do for people's memories and family lineage. It's priceless. You can watch the video below.

Our client Karla was genuinely so moved and impressed by the finished final video. Even though we only had photos from Karla, we were able to make something really special. It is worth mentioning, that the most impactful video we strive to create, are ones with interviews that we film of the clients. Our mission, for lack of a better phrase, is to capture people while they're still here--We get to know them in a personalized one on one interview setting, then edit the documentary about their story. So it is a VERY dedicated project, and tailored to each individual themselves. Filming a professionally lit interview (for about 2-3 hours), gathering all media, transcribing, creating the story, and editing all together is a lengthy process. With that said, I got to know Bill through the photos and one video clip we had. I have never felt the energy of someone I haven't met than I did with this video. I felt such great warmth, humor and love with Bill. Thank you for trusting us Karla! You can watch the video link here.

Please if you have any questions or interest in making a video for a family member, friend, whoever you want to tell a story about, please reach out.
